Speckle Imaging Characterization of Radial Velocity Exoplanet Systems

چکیده
Abstract We conducted speckle imaging observations of 53 stellar systems that were members long-term radial velocity (RV) monitoring campaigns and exhibited substantial accelerations indicative planetary or companions in wide orbits. Our made with blue red filters using the Differential Speckle Survey Instrument at Gemini-South NN-Explore Exoplanet Stellar Imager WIYN telescope. The identifies eight luminous within 2? primary stars. In three these systems—HD 1388, HD 87359, 104304—the properties imaged companion are consistent RV measurements, suggesting may be associated cause variation. For all systems, we derive differential magnitude limits (i.e., contrast curves) from imaging. extend this analysis to include upper on mass without detections. 25 rule out masses greater than 0.2 M ? , observed signals caused by late-M dwarfs substellar (potentially planetary) objects. On other hand, joint almost entirely rules explanations signal for 19522 suggests must have an angular separation below a few tenths arcsecond. This work highlights importance combined characterizing outer regions nearby systems.

The complementarity of astrometric and radial velocity exoplanet observations
Aims. It is commonly assumed that the two indirect exoplanet detection methods, the radial velocity method and astrometric method, require observational periods exceeding the orbital period to produce positive results. Here we test this assumption in detail. We also investigate the smallest ratio of observational timeline and orbital period required for positive detections. Methods. We obtain f...
متن کاملSimultaneous measurement of water flow velocity with fluorescent and speckle imaging technique
The average velocity of water flow has been simultaneously measured with fluorescent and speckle imaging methods. The measured velocities with two methods are in good agreement with each other and it confirms that the speckle imaging method can be used as a confident method to measure the velocity of water flow in a dry leaf. Also the velocity of water flow through thick and thin xylems of a le...
متن کاملQuantitative blood flow velocity imaging using laser speckle flowmetry.
Laser speckle flowmetry suffers from a debated quantification of the inverse relation between decorrelation time (τc) and blood flow velocity (V), i.e. 1/τc = αV. Using a modified microcirculation imager (integrated sidestream dark field - laser speckle contrast imaging [SDF-LSCI]), we experimentally investigate on the influence of the optical properties of scatterers on α in vitro and in vivo....
متن کاملSpeckle Reduction in Imaging Projection Systems
Diffractive diffusers (phase gratings) are routinely used for homogenizing and beam shaping for laser beam applications. Another use for diffractive diffusers is in the reduction of speckle for pico-projection systems. While diffusers are unable to completely eliminate speckle they can be utilized to decrease the resultant contrast to provide a more visually acceptable image. Research has been ...
متن کاملRadial Velocity
The radial velocity technique was utilized to make the first exoplanet discoveries and continues to play a major role in the discovery and characterization of exoplanetary systems. In this chapter we describe how the technique works, and the current precision and limitations. We then review its major successes in the field of exoplanets. With more than 250 planet detections, it is the most prol...
